Claim for a user

   Find a listing

   Open /browse or a category such as /c/furniture. Query params: q, category, condition, zip.

   Enter ZIP

   On /listings/{slug}, fill the field named toZip (Deliver to ZIP). Wait for the auto-calculated shipping quote. Do not invent a rate.

   See shipping + $2.99

   Totals show item $0, shipping (quoted), service fee $2.99, then a combined total. Confirm those three lines before paying.

   Sign in as a claimer

   Use /login?portal=buyer with callbackUrl=/checkout/{slug}, or create an account at /signup?portal=buyer.

   Pay at checkout

   Open /checkout/{slug}. Fill shipToName, shipToLine1, shipToCity, shipToState, shipToZip. Submit. Checkout charges shipping plus the $2.99 Gift N Thrift service fee. The item stays $0.

   Track the order

   Confirmation is /orders/{id}/success. Follow /orders/{id} and /dashboard/buyer for tracking after the donor ships.

Donate / list for a user

Donors use the website camera on a phone: Take photo is input type="file" accept="image/*" capture="environment", plus Upload from library. Up to 8 shots, compressed on device. After photos, POST /api/listings/ai-suggest drafts title, category, condition, description, and an FMV hint — the donor must edit and tap Publish. The Expo app in /apps/mobile calls the same APIs. Add to Home Screen still works without installing Expo.

   Open the seller portal

   Sign in at /login?portal=seller, then go to /dashboard/seller/listings/new.

   Fill required listing fields

   On /dashboard/seller/listings/new, snap photos from the phone (Take photo / Upload from library — web PWA, or the Expo app). After the first photo, POST /api/listings/ai-suggest to draft title, category, condition, description, and an optional FMV hint. Donor edits every field. Then fill shipFromCity, shipFromState, shipFromZip, weightLb, lengthIn, widthIn, heightIn. Never auto-publish. FMV is an estimate only — not tax advice.

   Publish at $0

   There is no item price field. Donors list for free. Gift N Thrift does not pay donors.

   Ship when claimed, then download the receipt

   When a claimer pays shipping + $2.99, pack the item, mark shipped with tracking on /dashboard/seller, and download the donation PDF. Gift N Thrift receipts are records of the transfer for the donor’s files — not tax advice, not IRS Form 8283, and not a promise that the gift is deductible. U.S. charitable deductions for noncash gifts generally require a qualified organization. Talk to a tax professional.

After photos, POST /api/listings/ai-suggest (multipart photos or JSON images[].base64) to draft title, category, condition, description, estimatedFmv. Donor must edit and confirm — never auto-publish. Web PWA or Expo app (/apps/mobile).

Listing preview ZIP uses toZip. Checkout destination ZIP uses shipToZip. Login uses email and password.

Demo logins

Seeded seller/buyer accounts exist only on a local database. This page does not publish passwords. In production, create a real account at /signup. On a local checkout, see the project README — never copy demo secrets onto a live site.
