Open your office

Add photos, then AI-draft
Snap photos from the phone (Take photo / Upload from library — web PWA, or the Expo app). After the first photo, POST /api/listings/ai-suggest to draft title, category, condition, description, and an optional FMV hint. Donor edits every field. Never auto-publish.

There is no item price field. Donors list for free. Gift N Thrift does not pay donors. After Publish, the public listing URL is /listings/{slug}. List another keeps category, who/size, fulfillment, origin, and packed size. This web form is for humans only.

Hand off when claimed, then download the receipt
On SHIP, pack the item after the claimer pays carrier + buffer + fee, mark shipped with tracking on /dashboard?tab=donate (Donate / listings). On PICKUP, arrange a meetup at the origin ZIP — no money changes hands. Download the donation PDF either way. /dashboard/seller redirects here. Gift N Thrift receipts are records of the transfer for the donor’s files — not tax advice, not IRS Form 8283, and not a promise that the gift is deductible. A future version may add optional charity-partner checkout so donations can be processed through a 501(c)(3). Until then, treat the PDF as documentation for your files and talk to a tax professional about your own situation.
Shipping is auto-calculated
Do not type a shipping dollar amount. Quote it: enter a destination ZIP on the listing (toZip) or at checkout (shipToZip). We use packed weight and dimensions, the donor’s origin ZIP, and that destination ZIP. Live carrier rates when EasyPost or Shippo keys are set; otherwise a published weight + ZIP formula. Checkout charges that all-in shipping plus a $2.99 Gift N Thrift service fee. Pickup is $0 / $0. After a shipped claim is paid, we buy a postage label when a live EasyPost key is set and the donor listed a ship-from street.

Craigslist is a bulletin board where prices, meetups, and shipping are whatever the poster types. Gift N Thrift is free classifieds for donated goods: the item is always $0. Pickup is truly free. If you want it shipped, postage is an all-in auto-calculated quote from packed size and ZIP codes, plus a $2.99 service fee, and donors get a written receipt. You are not haggling over a couch in a parking lot — you are claiming a gift.
Is this an alternative to Facebook Marketplace or Buy Nothing groups?
Same neighborhood of intent — used furniture, kids’ gear, kitchen extras, clothes, even cars — but a different deal. Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp are selling apps, and Buy Nothing groups are pickup-only in one neighborhood. Gift N Thrift works anywhere in the United States. Gift N Thrift is for people who would rather give the thing away than list it for $40 and six lowball messages. Pickup stays $0. Claimers who want a coat or pair of shoes shipped cover real postage; furniture is pickup only.
Is giving an item away on Gift N Thrift tax-deductible?
Probably not, and we do not promise it. Gift N Thrift exists to keep good things out of landfills. You can download a simple record of what you gave and when for your own files, but it is not tax advice and not an appraisal. Ask a tax professional about your situation.

Is local pickup actually free?
Yes. Pickup is always an option, and pickup claims are $0 shipping and $0 service fee. The donated item is $0 either way. Vehicles — free cars, trucks, and other rides — require pickup and cannot be shipped.
How do donors get receipts?
When someone claims the listing (pays SHIP, or confirms a $0 pickup), Donate / listings in your office unlocks a downloadable record of the handoff (item, condition, date, and that you received $0). It is for your files, not tax advice. Mark the package shipped and add tracking from the same screen, or note that it was picked up.
Are the items really free?
The donated good is $0 on every listing and every order. If you pick it up, you pay $0 shipping and $0 fee — truly free stuff. If you want it shipped, you pay all-in auto-calculated shipping plus a $2.99 Gift N Thrift service fee. Donors do not pay to list. Postage can be modest for a coat and expensive for a dining table (dimensional weight is real).
What is a church referral code?
A church or other organization can share a code such as /r/sotf. When you publish a listing with that code, Gift N Thrift owes $1 to that organization’s charity. The dollar comes out of our $2.99 service fee — we do not raise the claimer’s price, and we do not charge you to list. The pledge keeps going for future listings with that code. It is our pledge, not your tax write-off. Organizations can create an account at /signup/organization.
Does $1 from every transaction go to a church or charity?
Yes, on every claim that collects the service fee. When a claimer pays to ship, Gift N Thrift gives $1 of the $2.99 fee to a church or charitable organization. Pickup is $0 and does not fund a dollar. A church code sends the dollar to that partner’s charity. A paid claim with no code still counts: the dollar goes to the Gift N Thrift charity pool. The item stays $0. We do not add the dollar to the claimer’s bill, and it is not the donor’s tax write-off. Organizations can sign up at /signup/organization. How codes work is on /churches.
How do churches and sales reps get paid?
By Stripe transfer, once a month. Around the 5th, Gift N Thrift pays each church, organization, or sales rep for everything earned through the end of the previous month, straight to the bank account they set up with Stripe from their portal (/church or /rep). Stripe collects the bank and tax details; Gift N Thrift never sees the bank account number. The minimum payout is $25. A smaller balance rolls over to the next month. A refunded claim is taken back from the next payout. Until automatic payouts are switched on, the office pays by hand.
Who operates Gift N Thrift, and who charges my card?
Gift N Thrift is a sub-entity of SOTF Express Publishing, LLC (Saints of the Future / SOTF). SHIP checkout charges all-in auto-calculated shipping plus a $2.99 Gift N Thrift service fee, charged by SOTF Express Publishing, LLC. Pickup does not charge a card. Card statements may read GIFT N THRIFT. There is no separate Gift N Thrift merchant account.
Can I donate clothes online?
Yes. Photograph the coat, shoes, or kids’ clothes, let AI draft the listing, choose SHIP or PICKUP, and publish at $0. Claimers looking for free clothes, free kids coats, or shoes can take them locally for $0 or pay the carrier to ship. Boys’ and girls’ clothing have their own aisles under /categories.
